Future Plans

THE BUNGALOWS (OR AS WE KNOW THEM -THE PREFABS)

As you are probably aware the Prefabs in Killamarsh are currently being demolished and new bungalows being built on the site.

The Prefabs are part of the history and heritage of Killamarsh, they were built in the latE 1940s by German prisoners of war.  Although they were built as a short term measure to house those coming home from war who needed housing, they have survived for more than 60 years and stood the test of time.

North East Derbyshire District Council have very kindly donated a Prefab to Killamarsh Heritage Society so that we can preserve it as a reminder of our history.

We intend to stage the Prefab as it would have looked when it was first built.  We are being given items of furniture which are in keeping with that time.

We are currently having meetings with Rykneld Homes who manage the Prefabs on behalf of North Derbyshire Distrist Council who have assured us that they will help us to achieve our aim.

We will keep you informed of how things progress.

THE KILLAMARSH CENTRAL PROJECT

Killamarsh Heritage Society through the Killamarsh Central project aims to reinstate the old Killamarsh Central Station building on its original site at Station Road, Killamarsh, keeping the structure and look of the original building which was erected in 1890, but bringing the facilities up to today’s standards.

Update:  Due to the threat of the HS2 line coming through Station Road, we are looking at another site for the Station building.

We aim to provide a community space belonging to the people of Killamarsh for generations to come.

The project will create a heritage hub to record the history and heritage of Killamarsh, incorporating three railway stations, three mines, the Chesterfield canal, and local businesses.

We aim to involve the village schools in the project so that the history of Killamarsh is preserved for future generations.

We aim to create a space for people to enjoy and to create music and the arts which is needed in the village.

We will record and display a ‘Memory bank’ and interview the older generation on film and tape to preserve a record for future generations to ensure that their memories are not lost.

A tea room will be provided for the enjoyment of everyone within the community and beyond, and as a refreshment and rest stop for those using the Trans Pennine Trail

Outside space will be made available to everyone for activities within the community, such as markets and seasonal events, something which is urgently needed in the village.

TO ACHIEVE OUR AIM we need to purchase the land on which the station building sat and also need to re-erect the building and make it fit for purpose.

TO DO THIS WE NEED TO RAISE IN THE REGION OF £850,000.

It is hoped the majority of this money can be raised through funding bids to the appropriate bodies.

However, we will need to raise some of this funding so we will be running fundraising events which we hope you will support.  If you have any ideas of how we could raise funds, or you would like to fundraise on our behalf, or you would like to join our fundraising team please contact us (see below).

You will also see on the Home Page of our website a Donation button should you wish to donate to our fundraising.

You can also purchase our merchandise all proceeds from which will go to Killamarsh Heritage Society funds.  You can also show your support by attending our events.

IN ORDER FOR OUR PROJECT TO SUCCEED

We would also very much welcome any ideas and suggestions you may wish to put forward and any help you can give.

This is a community project – the end product will belong to the people of Killamarsh.  We do hope you will support us.
